One of the very visible – and tangible – elements of the Stellar Communities project is streetscaping. Among the many projects we are undertaking in this area includes the reconfiguration of Anderson Street. The current proposal is to make Anderson Street the official entrance to the
DePauw University campus . The streetscaping will result in a sense of place, as well as a safe and secure pedestrian pathway for residents, students and visitors.
While the Indiana Department of Transportation is funding the project, DePauw is investing $1.2 million, which will serve as the local match for this portion of the streetscaping work. DePauw’s investment in the project will provide for the city’s required 20 percent match for additional expected street projects and infrastructure improvements to parts of Washington Street, Locust, Spring, College, Vine, and Indiana Streets.
So what’s new? The City will be submitting our application to INDOT for streetscaping work in the coming weeks. We’ve completed the historic review and design for Anderson Street and selected Cripe Architects/Engineers to perform the preliminary engineering services. Our application for work on Indiana Street has been approved by the Federal Highway Administration. We have received our DES number – DES is the designation number that INDOT uses to track all projects – for the Indiana Street work, and INDOT has established a letting date for January 2013. At the same time, we are in the process of submitting funding requests for other street projects and infrastructure work. Check back to learn when those improvements will be coming to a street near you!
