Boards & Commissions
  • Board of Public Works
    Meets every third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm.
    The Board of Public Works consists of three members, one of whom is the mayor. The remaining two are appointments by the mayor. Board members must be residents of the city but may hold other municipal appointed or elected offices. The Clerk-Treasurer is the clerk of the board.
    The Board functions include law enforcement and fire protection; the specific powers are contained in IC 36-8. The public works function includes control over streets, sanitation, sewers and the water utility.
     
  • Greencastle Housing Authority
    Meets second Thursday of the month.
    Mayor appoints members, term of office is four years. 
     
  • Commission on Sustainability
    Meets second Monday of the month.
    Mayor appoints three members; City Council appoints three; three appointed by Commission itself; one Council appointment shall be a Council member; Mayor shall be ex-officio. No more than four Commissioners may live outside the City’s corporate limit.
     
  • Zoning Appeals Board
    Meets every first Tuesday of the Month 7:00 pm City Hall
    The Mayor appoints three members--two at large and one from Plan Commission; one appointed by Plan Commission from between its two members from the unincorporated area around city; one by City Council. Term of office is four years, with two consecutive term limit.   • Tree Board
    Meets every second Wednesday of Feb., Apr., June, Aug., Oct., Dec 6:30 pm City Hall
    Mayor appoints 3 members; City of Greencastle Ordinance 1998-10 places Street Commissioner and a City Councilor on Board. Term of office is three years.
     
  • Redevelopment Commission

    The Redevelopment Commission meeting is on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 5:30.

    Mayor appoints three members, City Council appoints two.
    Term of office is one year.
     
  • Parks and Recreation Board
    Meets every first Wednesday of month 7:30 pm City Hall or as announced.
    Mayor appoints 4 members, Library Board appoints one of its own members, School Board appoints one of its own members.
    Term of office is four years for regular members and one year for ex officio members.
     
  • Citizens Advisory Commission
    Meets as needed first Tuesday of month 8:00 am City Hall.
    Mayor appoints members annually.
     
  • Cemetery Board
    Meets every first Tuesday of Month 3:30 p.m., Forest Hill Cemetery 2181 South County Road 50
    Mayor appoints members. Term of office is four years.
     
  • Plan Commission
    Plan Commission which meets the fourth Monday at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
    Mayor appoints five members; County Commissioners appoint two; City Council appoints one.  Park Board appoints one.  Board of Works appoints one; Indiana Statute places engineer on Commission.
