CITY BUILDING COMMISSIONER
Patrick Thibodeau has been the Building Commissioner for the City of Greencastle since April of 2016. He is a graduate of South Putnam High School and has bachelor’s degree in Management of Human Resources from Oakland City University and Master’s in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. He has a background in government service, construction, transportation and has been a state licensed pest inspector and home inspector.
The Building Commissioner’s responsibilities include; reviewing plans, issuing permits, inspecting residential, commercial and industrial structures during various stages of construction to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations. The Building Commissioner is responsible for issuing a Certificate of Occupancy when all required inspections are complete and a building is found to be in compliance with codes and suitable for habitation.
Permitted and inspected construction ensures that structures are safe, healthy, provide access, provide egress, and meet fire safety requirements. Communities that have well managed building programs enjoy benefits that include; higher property values, lower insurance rates, lower utility/energy usage and better fire protection ratings.
